Developmental Edit

Manuscript Review

This edit is the most comprehensive; your developmental editor will read the entire manuscript and leave comments on the pages to address concerns around structure, character, voice, pacing, and more. The developmental edit also includes an in-depth editorial letter designed to walk the author through any suggested larger edits. This edit is best for people who have a completed manuscript and are looking for help to make sure that their story is working on a larger, structural level.

If you aren’t sure what your book might need or just want an expert eye to read-through and give you advice on next steps, then we would recommend a Manuscript Review. Your editor will read your book and then meet with you over Zoom or in person to discuss their suggestions and answer any questions you might have.

Copy edit

Your copy editor will work to ensure tone, voice, clarity, and flow of the writing. A copy edit is also a check for grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes. This includes leaving comments on the page where necessary and making revisions to the manuscript itself. This edit is best for books that are solid in terms of plot and structure but might need a little extra help with flow and grammar.

Proofread

Your proofreader will point out any misspelled words, punctuation mistakes, or grammatical errors on the book after it’s been formatted for printing. They will also check the file to make sure that no errors were introduced in the formatting process. Since it is impossible to catch every small correction yourself, we advise that every author should plan on proofreading their project.
